Here at Rich Design Co, we try to use every holiday as an excuse to squeeze in as much family fun time as possible. Our kids are only little for a while, so it’s important to create core memories and have as much fun as we can for them. If you’re like us and always looking for creative ways to celebrate and spend time together, we’ve got you covered.
Easter is one of my favorite holidays for making special memories with my kiddo. It usually marks the start of warmer weather, making it easier to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. Each year, I plan simple, fun activities that we can do together, whether it’s baking, gardening, or a cozy movie night. I’m also sharing some of our favorite Easter finds—things that have made our celebrations extra fun—throughout this post. Some of the links included are affiliate links, meaning I may earn a small commission if you make a purchase (at no extra cost to you).
Here’s what we have planned (and have already enjoyed!) this year:

Eas
ter Themed Picnic at the Park
One of my favorite ways to celebrate Easter is with a simple picnic. It doesn’t have to be fancy—just a blanket, easy snacks, and fresh air make it special. We usually head to a park, but a backyard picnic works just as well! To make it festive, I like to get creative with our food. This year, I used Easter cookie cutters to turn PB&Js into bunny and egg shapes. I also packed carrots with ranch dip, egg-shaped veggie chips, and a few chocolate eggs for a treat.
Picnics like this are a great way to slow down and enjoy time together. My son loves running around, spotting birds, or just laying on the blanket to snack. It’s also perfect for Easter-themed activities—we’ve done coloring sheets, a scavenger hunt, or just made up little games. If you’re looking for a fun and easy Easter tradition, I highly recommend planning a picnic. No need for anything elaborate—just good food, a cozy blanket, and time together.
Below, I’ve linked some of my favorite Easter picnic essentials—like cute paper plates, napkins, cookie cutters, and festive cups.

Springtime Scavenger Hunt (Free Download!)
We try to get outside every day, and a scavenger hunt makes it even more fun—especially when my son starts getting bored at the park. It’s an easy way to keep him engaged while turning a simple walk into an adventure.
I like to laminate a printable scavenger hunt so we can use it over and over with a dry-erase marker. Some days, we look for flowers, birds, and butterflies; other days, I add Easter-themed finds like bunnies or colorful eggs. It works just as well indoors on rainy days by hiding small items around the house.
If you’d like to try it, I’ve put together a free printable Springtime Scavenger Hunt that you can download and use at home. It’s a simple way to keep kids entertained while getting outside and making Easter memories!

Growing Our Own Carrots
Since we have raised garden beds, planting carrots is something we love to do in the spring. My son enjoys scooping the soil, dropping in the tiny seeds, and watering them—though I think his favorite part is checking on them every day to see if they’ve started to grow. It’s such a great way to teach patience and get kids excited about gardening.
If you don’t have raised beds, don’t worry—carrots are great for container gardening too! Last year, we used the Miracle-Gro Root Viewer (linked below), and it was perfect for kids. It’s a small, clear container designed to show the roots as they grow, so little ones can actually see what’s happening under the soil. We planted both carrots and radishes in it, and my son loved checking on them every day. We also love all of the Back to the Roots planting kits as they come with everything you need and are super simple and fun to do.
Planting kits are a fun, hands-on way to introduce kids to gardening, even if you don’t have a lot of space. We also make it a little extra special by putting on our gardening aprons, so he feels like he has his own little gardening uniform.

Easter Baking
Baking is one of our favorite Easter traditions, and since my son loves M&Ms, we always make M&M cookies with pastel-colored M&Ms. It’s a simple recipe, but the bright colors make them feel extra festive.
I let him help as much as possible—pouring, mixing, and sneaking M&Ms when he thinks I’m not looking. The best part is pulling them out of the oven and arranging them on our Easter bunny platter before he picks out the one with the most M&Ms as his own. We also like to package up extras for family and friends, making it even more special.
If you’re looking for an easy Easter baking idea, M&M cookies are always a hit. I’ve linked some of our favorite Easter baking tools, bunny-shaped plates, and pastel M&Ms below (affiliate links), along with two of my favorite Easter cookie recipes from other blogs.

Easter Movie Day
One of my favorite traditions for any holiday is watching themed movies - espeically on Wednesdays when my son is out of school and I have to stop working early. It’s the perfect way to slow down, snuggle up, and enjoy a fun Easter-themed movie together.
This year, we watched Hop, which was an instant hit. He brought down all his bunny plushies and Easter Squishmallows while watching, which makes it even cuter.
To make it special, I put together a movie snack box with popcorn, Easter M&Ms, bunny graham crackers, and a juice box. He loves having his own little tray of treats, and it makes the night feel more like an event.
If you want to start a fun Easter tradition, a cozy movie night is an easy way to celebrate. Below I’ve linked the snack boxes I purchased (affliate link).

Countdown to Easter
The excitement leading up to Easter is half the fun! In our home, countdowns are a big deal. Like a lot of four-year-olds, my son struggles with understanding time, so having a visual countdown helps him grasp how many days are left until a special event. Plus, it builds excitement! Each morning, he loves updating the countdown as we get closer to the big day.
I usually start about 30 days out from a holiday, so we’ll be bringing out our Easter countdown sign again in just a few days. This year, I even designed a dinosaur-themed countdown just for him, since dinosaurs are his new favorite thing. If you love the idea of a countdown but want something to match your style, we have a few different countdown sign options in our shop to fit your home’s decor. Whether it’s a chalkboard, a wooden countdown, or even a simple paper chain, having a daily way to mark the days makes Easter feel even more magical.

Shaving Cream Egg Decorating: A fun twist on egg dyeing—we swirl food coloring into shaving cream for a marbleized egg effect.
Easy Easter Crafts: We love simple crafts like handprint bunnies or paper plate chicks. It’s a great creative outlet and perfect for decorating the house!
Easter Sensory Bin: Filling a bin with Easter grass, plastic eggs, pom-poms, and small toys creates a sensory exploration that keeps my son engaged for hours.
These simple Easter activities have become treasured traditions in our home, helping us celebrate the season in memorable, meaningful ways. What Easter traditions are you creating with your family this year? I'd love to hear about them!
